Summary of Duties

The Ohio State University Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy invites applications for The Lawrence and Isabel Barnett Endowed Professorship in Arts Management. We seek an associate professor of arts management whose research, teaching, and work experience demonstrate expertise within the arts management/administration field and national or international stature. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in instruction in arts entrepreneurship and management in the spirit of the vision of Lawrence and Isabel Barnett that we teach Art students about Business and teach Business students about managing Arts organizations. The successful applicant will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, and take an active role as an instructor and advisor to students at all levels. The candidate will contribute to the academic life of the Department, College, and University through teaching, research, and service. An existing research agenda that reaches across traditional disciplinary boundaries is desirable, as this position offers opportunities for collaboration with faculty in other departments across the College and University, including the Fisher College of Business and John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

The Department’s programs attract students with interests in arts performance/production, general administration, and business in both non-profit and commercial creative industries. This position is crucial to expanding the breadth of disciplinary expertise and programmatic offerings within the Department, whose curriculum is attracting growing student interest. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the following department programs: Bachelor of Arts in Arts Management, in cooperation with the Fisher College of Business; Master of Arts in Arts Policy and Administration, a joint program with the John Glenn College of Public Affairs; Undergraduate Minor in Arts Entrepreneurship; and Graduate Minor in Arts Management (proposed and under review).

Required Qualifications

To be competitive, applicants must demonstrate the following qualifications: PhD or equivalent in Arts Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; a teaching/publication record that is national/international in scope; expertise in the arts management/administration field; and a demonstrated record of innovative and experimental approaches to education. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
