Summary of Duties

This position works in clinical laboratories of the Veterinary Medical Center; performs routine laboratory procedures in hematology, urinalysis, hemostasis, cytology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank, using laboratory instrumentation and established protocols; calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment, executes quality control program; maintains inventory of reagents and supplies; reports laboratory data to veterinary faculty, students and outside practitioners utilizing a laboratory information management system; prepares send-out samples for shipment to reference laboratories; performs other duties as requested; flexible hours to be arranged including days, evenings, weekends and on-call; some overtime may be required.

The individual in this position will be working around chemical reagents, biological samples, bio hazardous materials, exposure to animal dander; sharp focus vision, vision with microscope, color vision; finger dexterity; occasional lifting of more than 20 lbs.

Unusual Working Conditions: Exposure to zoonotic diseases, potential animal inflicted injury, and animal dander. Work requires staring at computer screens for long periods of time.

Pre Employment Screening Requires the successful completion of a background check.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; must be registered with the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board as a Registered Veterinary Technician; ability obtain OVMLB License prior to start date.

Desired Qualifications

Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology or biological sciences with an MLT certification.

Target Salary $16.50 - $17.89 Hourly
