Summary of Duties

The Senior Licensing Manager (SLM) is the most senior position among the licensing staff positions. The SLM is responsible for identifying technologies with commercial applications, evaluating the commercial potential of technologies, identifying potential licensees, preparing non-confidential technical information for marketing purposes, developing and implementing specific marketing strategies for each technology, and drafting and negotiating license agreements to large/mid-size corporations, as well as university startup companies. The SLM will also manage other types of agreements including material transfer, collaboration and nondisclosure agreements. You will be responsible for performing your own, or directing other licensing officers’, negotiations related to the Intellectual Property (IP), as well as demonstrating valuation and IP understanding. The IP may be in the fields of: engineering, physical sciences, chemistry, software and information technology, or medical devices. The SLM is also responsible for mentoring and support of licensing analysts, licensing managers, and student interns.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Engineering or Physical Science, MBA, JD, or Ph.D. An MBA or JD will only be considered if the candidate has a science degree in addition to the MBA or JD; Industry Experience in IP licensing and/or technology transfer; five years of corporate licensing or university technology commercialization/transfer experience; negotiated license agreements and provide a deal sheet.
