Summary of Duties

Conducts experiments to understand the role biomechanical factors play in the onset and progression of low back pain and how such knowledge can be harnessed to inform treatment and improve diagnosis; assists with and conducts experiments involving mechanical tests and cell culture experiments in a laboratory setting within the Spine Research Institute; responsible for maintaining and overseeing cell and tissue culture preparations; assists in developing protocols, conducting research experiments and data analysis (image analysis, biochemical assays etc); works with clinicians to obtain surgical specimens; assists PI with writing abstracts and research papers; manages and maintains laboratory equipment, stock reagents and solutions; orders supplies and equipment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research; experience in a biological/health research capacity; extremely detail oriented; cell culture experience using sterile technique; mechanical testing experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with CAD software; experience in orthopedic related tissues.
