Summary of Duties

Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) in maintaining the research lab and conducting experiments; provides support on projects in the lab related to study of heart structure and function; performs basic research procedures such as tissue harvest, micro dissection, solution preparation and microscopy; performs Western blots; maintains cell lines and performs cell viability and clonogenic cell survival studies; maintains mouse colony and performs genotyping via PCR; performs collection and preparation of cell and tissue samples for confocal microscopy, STORM super-resolution microscopy and electron microscopy including cryosectioning and fluorescent immunolabeling; collaborates with other researchers and students in the laboratory; trains, sets up, schedules, and assists trainees in laboratory procedures; maintains and orders reagents and equipment, as needed; performs simple maintenance on experimental equipment; performs routine laboratory maintenance, including reagent preparation, glassware cleaning, and autoclaving; maintains careful records; assists in compiling and organizing data for manuscripts and grant proposals.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research; experience in cell biology and biochemistry.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques.
