Summary of Duties

The Assistant Director of First Year Experience (FYE) in the office of Undergraduate Education at The Ohio State University reports directly to the Associate Director of First Year Experience and participates in the supervision of the office’s Program Coordinators and Peer Leaders; participates in the leadership, development, planning and implementation of all new student programs and initiatives including orientation, Buckeyes First, the First Year Success Series, etc.; works in conjunction with the office’s leadership team to design, implement, and assess efforts to affect student success and retention at the university; works with key partners to develop initiatives that affect the success and retention of at-risk student population at the university including underrepresented students, first-generation college students, low-income students, etc.; initiates and oversees the needs-assessment, data collection and analysis in the office, using tools such as the College Student Inventory and FYE’s Stoplight rapid assessment initiative to ensure the continual improvement of FYE’s innovative, data-informed strategies; provides leadership for FYE’s comprehensive Peer Leader program, from the theoretical foundation, outcomes and goals of the program, to the recruitment, selection, training and on-going development of the Peer Leader team; contributes to campus-wide initiatives related to student success and retention; represents FYE on collaborative projects related to peer leadership in the colleges and with key partners in the Office of Student Life and other student support units; partners with staff members that work to enhance the access of targeted population to the university, including Undergraduate Admissions, Student Financial Aid, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion; manages budgets and develops regular assessments of programs to inform practice and support changes to requests for additional resources; reads applications through our holistic application review process.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education; knowledge of and experience in first-year experience programming and planning at a four-year college/university; excellent communication skills including writing and public speaking.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in student development, higher education, student affairs or related field highly desired; experience with and confidence in using data manipulation and analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel and Access.

Target Salary $49,000.00 - $54,000.00 Annually
