Summary of Duties

Responsible for ensuring payroll transactions adhere to the College of Education and Human Ecology internal control structure, which includes segregation of duties in the processing of every transaction, appropriate mandatory approvals, and appropriate mandatory reconciliation; well versed in university payroll and responds to inquiries regarding payroll functions of the College of Education and Human Ecology (BOC); ability to identify Human Resource policies as they pertain to OSU payroll functions; receives payroll requests from authorized staff and reviews for compliance to University policies and procedures; initiates payroll transactions including, but not limited to, Job Data updates, Position Description updates, Direct Retro Distributions, Department Budget Table Entries and initiates Additional Pay requests as assigned in HRA with a high degree of accuracy; meets with new staff, faculty and students to process new hire paperwork; initiates background checks as needed; independently manages payroll worklist with minimal supervision to ensure timely entry of actions; runs payroll timekeeping reports for biweekly and monthly staff and ensures payroll checklists are completed; ensures I-9 compliance and manages e-verify system; ensures all university and college policies are followed and all supporting documentation conforms to university guidelines; serves as point of contact to faculty and staff in the BOC on payroll procedures; resolves issues with payroll transactions through independent interaction with departments and/or university offices; educates departments in areas of payroll compliance including training new associates on payroll processes; provides a high level customer service to faculty and staff ensuring processing is timely, efficient, accurate and in compliance with university and college guidelines; verifies transactions are accurately posted to PeopleSoft to mitigate risk of incorrect payments to employees; maintains payroll transaction files according to university record retention requirements; runs BuckIQ and eReports to aid in reconciliation and validation of work; works on project work as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field; 2-3 years of customer service experience in an administrative capacity; one year of expertise with OSU payroll systems or OSU Human Resources experience; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; high degree of expertise with University Payroll Policy and Resources; one year of service center experience in a university setting; proven track record of high performance; experience utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; evidence of ability to work successfully in a team environment; ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information using considerable discretion in all matters; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers orally and in writing; ability to organize data and documents efficiently.

Desired Qualifications

Experience interpreting policies independently; beginner – intermediate excel proficiency; experience multi-tasking; faculty policy experience; ability to work in an extremely detail oriented environment.
