Summary of Duties

This postdoctoral position will be supported by a recently awarded, 5-year early career grant from the Department of Energy to identify the biogeochemical and genomic determinants impacting microbial methane production in sediments and soils. Design and execute independent research developing and applying methods to assign microbial metabolic functional capabilities; participates in field sampling campaigns; manages scientific collaborations with colleagues from engineering and the Department of Energy; manages soil genome database; writes research manuscripts and reviews independently; participates in fellowship and grant writing; maintains knowledge of appropriate scientific literature; Provides practical supervision of laboratory staff and students; works closely with laboratory bioinformatician to perform some server system administration work; attends scientific meetings and presents data.

Required Qualifications

PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, or computational sciences and a track record that demonstrates experience applying computational methods to analyze biological datasets; knowledge of operating systems and programming languages including Unix/Linux.
