Summary of Duties

It takes more than technology tools to offer quality distance education. Rather, the Ohio State community must adapt our infrastructure which supports everyday business, we must evolve culturally, and we must nurture a different kind of learner in new ways.

The Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE)‘s Communications Strategist will support these efforts by partnering with Ohio State’s Distance Education team and with support staff across the university. (S)he will lead advocacy efforts to promote change at Ohio State on behalf of distance learners. (S)he will be responsible for leading the strategic communications efforts for promoting professional learning opportunities for Ohio State’s faculty and staff across the Columbus and regional campuses.

The Strategist will support other areas of Distance Education as well, including the Student Services team and the College Ready Ohio grant program. These initiatives similarly support non-traditional learners and prepare educators to help these students succeed.

The Strategist is an integral part of ODEE’s Marketing team. The ideal candidate must be an excellent time manager, serving multiple internal and external clients with a broad variety of communications skills. An effective Strategist will have a fresh editorial style, creativity and attention to detail. The Strategist will use visual design knowledge to ensure compliance with an existing visual stylebook and to mock up graphic assets for development by ODEE’s web and design team. The role requires a dedication to high quality results in a creative, fast-paced work environment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communication, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 2-3 years of full-time storytelling experience in marketing/communications writing and editing web copy, developing and executing comprehensive and strategic communications campaigns; 2-3 years of full-time experience working in a content management system, producing social media content for a business or organization, developing email marketing campaigns and promotional articles for online publication; 2-3 years of demonstrating oral, written, and visual communications skills in a full-time position.

Desired Qualifications

Drupal CMS, Hootsuite, Adobe Suite, Video Production, email marketing systems, website optimization, inbound/content marketing strategy.
