Summary of Duties

In 2016, Columbus competed against 77 cities to win the Smart City Challenge and take the lead in shaping the future of transportation. By receiving this award, Columbus has gained funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Vulcan, Inc., a Paul G. Allen Company in order to; improve people’s quality of life, drive growth in the economy, provide better access to jobs and ladders of opportunity, become a world-class logistics leader, and foster sustainability. Ohio State is serving as the lead research institution incorporating university work to improve safety and efficiency.

Reporting to the Vice President for Economic and Corporate Engagement, the Director will work in the Corporate Engagement Office at Ohio State University and serve as a liaison for Ohio State to the Smart Columbus Project. Creates mutually beneficial relationships with the City of Columbus and Columbus Partnerships, as well as working with partners such as the Transportation Research Centers (TRC) for projects such as the NW 33 Innovation Corridor and Smart Belt Coalition- a coalition of Ohio State, University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon University, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Ohio Turnpike, and Pennsylvania Turnpike representatives.

Primary duties will include: acting as a customer relationship manager; keeping all required parties apprised as to the project status, requests, information needed, and developing a decision making process for new areas; partnering with the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) to facilitate industry sponsored research; collaborating with internal partners to identify sources and uses of the OSU financial commitment to Smart Columbus; record keeping and requesting additional funding as needed; and connecting OSU faculty with projects that require specialized research capabilities.

The incumbent will work both from the Corporate Engagement Office and the Smart City program office at the Idea Foundry to create business cases to utilize the Smart Columbus and Smart Belt coalition to engage industry and government partners.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; five years of customer relationship management experience; proven ability to manage projects; metrics and results driven; five years of new prospect development of complex alliances between academic, public, and private sector sponsors and partners; ability to work effectively and efficiently toward goals in a complex, diverse environment with multiple and changing demands; deals well with ambiguity and paradox; ability to develop strong relationships and work with senior-level administration, faculty, and staff to reach collaborative, outcome driven solutions; possesses outstanding verbal, written and visual communication skill; research experience.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree; academic or higher education experience; experience working in management consulting, account management, or corporate sales.

Target Salary $120,000.00 - $133,000.00 Annually
