Summary of Duties

Assistant Professor- Teaching load for tenure-track English faculty on the Newark campus is typically 3/3, with reductions during the probationary period. Teaching duties will include the first half of a British literature survey, a Shakespeare seminar, a first-year composition course, and lower- and upper-level literature courses according to the interests of the applicant. English faculty at Newark teach in a multidisciplinary small-college environment, but are integrated members of The Ohio State University English Department, an R1 institution, which includes faculty on five campuses. Research duties include conducting scholarship in accordance with the expectations of the Department of English, which include the publication of books and scholarly articles in the candidate’s area(s) of specialization. The Newark campus has flexible service expectations and values a broad range of possible contributions and outreach to the campus, department, university, and surrounding communities.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in English or a related field by August 2018; a culturally responsive pedagogy appropriate for a racially and economically diverse student population; a documented record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level; clear evidence of scholarly promise.
