Summary of Duties

The Department of Horticulture and Crop Science and the Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Science at Ohio State University seeks a candidate to provide leadership to the area of Agroecosystem Management for Food System Resilience. This position is a 9- month tenure-track, assistant or associate professor appointment with 70% Research, 15% Teaching, and 15% Extension responsibilities. This faculty position is partially funded by The Ohio State University’s Discovery Themes Initiative (DTI), a significant investment in key thematic areas in which the university will make a global impact: Energy and Environment, Food Production and Security, and Health and Wellness. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative interdisciplinary community of scholars associated with a DTI investment in the Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation (InFACT). A distinguished team of 50 faculty members from across The Ohio State University has collaborated on this initiative to develop a comprehensive, transformative approach to food security. It includes use of university campuses and lands as living laboratories, and creating new physical, social and cultural models of food systems that promote human health while balancing technology, ecological capacities, economics, justice and equity. This requires collaboration and balance across the sciences, engineering, and humanities, as well as a willingness to engage many partners including students, citizens, business and industry, policy makers, and many more, seeking holistic approaches to improved agroecosystem health, locally, nationally and globally. The faculty positions we’ve proposed, including this one, are expected to strengthen the connections among disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas of strength related to food security.

The faculty member will establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program supported by extramural funding and teaching courses at the undergraduate or graduate level in their area of expertise. The faculty member will also be responsible for undergraduate and graduate student advising and providing support to co-curricular programs such as advising student clubs and organizations and providing mentoring for undergraduate research.

This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.
