Summary of Duties

The Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) in Cuyahoga county, will provide overall leadership to FCS programming targeted to local and area needs; work collaboratively with the team of Extension professionals to provide FCS programming within the Western Reserve Extension Education and Research Area (EERA); give leadership to proactive program development in the broad areas of FCS; collaborate with appropriate agencies and organizations to provide proactive educational programming for individuals, families, agencies, organizations, schools, and businesses; identify and prioritize needs and measure impacts of programming; utilize a variety of education program delivery methods and teaching techniques including distance education, electronic media, newsletters, individual and group meetings, demonstrations, and capacity-building to accomplish educational goals and to reach target audiences; ensure diversity among potential clientele and learners; seek grants and contracts for OSU Extension FCS educational programs and interdisciplinary efforts to expand programming offered to clientele or to reach new audiences; work collaboratively with Extension Educators in all other program areas (Agriculture & Natural Resources, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Development), where interdisciplinary efforts are needed to meet broad issues or carry out major programming efforts; develop community support and recognition for the SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education), including program, policy, system, and environmental change components; provide opportunities to serve as spokespersons advocating for OSU Extension, and to serve as key leaders in Train-the- Trainer efforts.

Required Qualifications

An earned Master’s degree at the time of hire is required with at least one degree in Family and Consumer Sciences or closely related area and with appropriate course work (examples are: Human Development/Family Science, Community Nutrition, Family Financial Management, Social Work/Counseling).

Screening interviews for selected candidates will be held on December 13, 2017.
