Summary of Duties

Provides statewide leadership for planning, implementing and evaluating educational programming in viticulture production and support for grape growers that addresses industry needs and priorities. Supplies comprehensive information on current technology and viticultural expertise to established Ohio grape growers. Provides relevant and essential information and educational materials to new and potential Ohio growers interested in commercial grape production on issues of vineyard site selection, vineyard design, routine aspects of vineyard management, and diagnosis of routine vineyard problems. Conducts individual site visits to assist established, new or potential grape producers when required. Serves as an information resource for viticulture personnel throughout Ohio.

Delivers educational programming at multiple levels in a variety of venues using a diverse array of delivery methods; develops and delivers workshops that present current and salient topical viticulture information to growers; plans, conducts, and speaks at educational meetings; assists with the implementation of Ohio Grape Research and Extension Team educational programs including the Ohio Grape Wine Conference, short courses, and workshops by providing logistical support, facilitating arrangements, obtaining necessary resources, and delivering content; produces and disseminates written or electronically-delivered extension educational materials, develops fact sheets and authors extension bulletins, reports, and newsletter articles; provides special project support including maintenance and editing of the electronic bulletin board (e.g. The Ohio Grape-Wine Electronic Newsletter, The Grape Exchange and The Job Board) and contributes to grape program websites.

Collaborates across departments and disciplines including working with faculty, specialists and educators to achieve efficient, profitable and sustainable viticulture and overall advancement for the Ohio grape industry; conducts training sessions on commercial grape production to encourage adoption of new technologies and techniques in viticulture and pest management; fosters strong collaboration in extension and research projects among faculty, researchers, and extension specialists and educators including, viticulture, enology, plant pathology, entomology, weed science and other disciplines; coordinates and conducts monthly meetings of the Grape Team ensuring efficient and timely communication within the group.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in horticulture & crop science or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in extension teaching or research in viticulture.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in education curriculum development, program planning, and strong communication skills in outreach/extension teaching.

Target Salary $47,000.00 - $50,000.00 Annually
