Summary of Duties

The Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (VPM) at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track, faculty position in Veterinary Public Health (VPH). The successful candidate will be part of a core teaching and research faculty within the department, and will serve as the Associate Director of the nationally recognized Veterinary Public Health program at OSU [http://vet.osu.edu/education/veterinary-public-health-program].

The position will have significant teaching responsibilities, and the successful candidate will be expected to further expand and sustain the VPH program, which includes leading the development of a long-distance curriculum. The candidate will contribute to the mission of the Department and College by teaching and mentoring students in both the professional DVM and graduate curriculum as well as leading courses directly related to VPH/VPM.

The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in scholarly activity, including independent or collaborative research relevant to VPH/VPM. Within the Department, opportunities exist for collaboration with other VPH/VPM specialists, epidemiologists, microbiologists, and extension specialists, working in diverse areas of animal health, population medicine, food safety, and zoonotic diseases. Additional multi-disciplinary teaching and research opportunities are also available within the College of Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Public Health, and Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, as well as with the Ohio Department of Health, and the Ohio Department of Agriculture – Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.

Applicants must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, and advanced training (i.e. MPH, MS, DrPH, or PhD) in a closely related VPH/VPM discipline; clear evidence of expertise in a VPH/VPM oriented discipline such as zoonoses and foodborne diseases, infectious disease epidemiology, outbreak investigations, emergency response, biodefense, etc.; Board certification (or eligibility) in an appropriate specialty board (e.g. ACVPM) and other experience in an area relevant to VPH is highly desirable; experience in developing and delivering distance education or training is desirable, but not required; and excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with other faculty and staff.
