Summary of Duties

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an innovative Associate Dean for Professional Programs as we advance our professional veterinary educational program with an emphasis on expanding experiential learning opportunities. The Associate Dean will articulate a vision for preeminence in veterinary education to further Ohio State as the model learning community where we prepare confident and competent students for careers of excellence in all areas of our profession. The Associate Dean will oversee recruitment, admissions, career management, professional development, health and wellness, and all processes and procedures relative to the delivery of the professional veterinary program, curriculum development, and faculty support for teaching and learning. The Associate Dean will have a DVM or equivalent, have a faculty appointment in one of our three departments, and report to the Dean.

The Associate Dean will lead, inspire, and further develop a team consisting of an Interim Assistant Dean and Directors responsible for offices and programmatic areas whose essential functions currently include:

Admissions and Student Affairs

Oversight for the Interim Assistant Dean and Office & Director of Admissions, Recruitment, and Student Diversity Initiatives whose responsibilities include:

• Active recruitment and pipeline development
• Oversee the administration of the Admissions process

Curriculum, Teaching and Programmatic Support

Academic Affairs

• Vice-Chair for the Council for Professional Education
• Liaison with Stanton Foundation Chair to advance general practice education
• Coordinate with Academic Standards Council, team leaders, and students regarding low performance flags, petitions for readmission or reinstatement, and probationary actions
• Coordinate with Student Council and Student Judiciary regarding allegations of professional or academic misconduct and honor code hearings
• Mentor students
• Oversee the collection and reporting of comparative data

Oversight for the Office & Director of Teaching and Learning whose responsibilities include:

• Support clinical and preclinical curricular, instructional, and assessment activities and instructional technology
• Faculty development programming for course design, learning theory and application, and effective and innovative instructional models
• Peer tutoring program

Oversight for the Office & Director of Professional Program Support whose responsibilities include:

• Clinical and preclinical scheduling, clinical orientation, competency logging, grades, exam administration, absences
• Coordination of scholarship awards and financial aid
• Student accommodations
• Administer college enrollment and registration, maintain college records, coordinate with licensing and health service agencies

Student Life and Total Health & Wellness

Oversight for the Office & Director of Career Management and Professional Development whose responsibilities include development and implementation of:

• Career and employment resources
• The professional development curriculum and student leadership training

Oversight for the Office & Director of Counseling and Consultation whose responsibilities include:

• Provision of onsite counseling and consultation for emotional and lifestyle wellness
• Coordination with university counseling and consultation resources

Oversight of:

• Special events such as White Coat Ceremony, Oath & Hooding, Commencement, Honors & Awards, and orientation
• Student Ambassador Program
• Student Organizations and Industry Reps

Required Qualifications

DVM or equivalent degree; demonstrable oversight and excellence in one or more areas of academic and/or student affairs such as curricular development, recruitment and admissions, and/or administration of teaching programs; proven track record as a leader; outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sits for long periods of time; exposure to animal dander.
